Why?
Although the interest in philosophy as a discipline invests many departments, the College still lacks so far a meeting point for philosophical discussions. From these considerations springs the need for an initiative able to group together the dispersed interest.
Mission
Fostering an interdisciplinary interest and approach to Continental Philosophy, enhancing the study of the subject through the engagement with a diverse range of research directions and initiatives. This will allow the creation of a lasting platform of discussion and debate for post-graduate students (MA, MRes, Mphil and PhD) of different departments at Goldsmiths (Visual Cultures, History, Sociology, Media and Communications etc.).
The research group will act as a point of reference between different actors (academic staff, students, visiting professors) and different departments and research frameworks in order to establish, within Goldsmiths, a common and cooperative space of dialogue devoted to Continental Philosophy.
Activities
Conversations with some among the most influential philosophers at work today.
Students seminars, organized and managed by students on selected topics.
Mentors seminars, organized by students along with academic staff linked with the group.
